چکیده

Abstract Unraveling the complex notion of “self” and “other” necessitates a layered approach that explores biology, namely genetics; philosophy, event phenomenology; culture, religion. This essay examines (1) latest paradigm shift occurring in genetic sciences due to increased knowledge epigenetic effects on gene expression how our DNA functions concert with cellular apparatus, body, environment; (2) incorporation relationality into philosophical understanding self; (3) finally, what religion adds this exploration self. Thus, providing glimpse at these different approaches identity help us understand “self.”

God Knows (But does God Believe?)

The standard view in epistemology is that propositional knowledge entails belief. Positive arguments are seldom given for this entailment thesis, however; instead, its truth is typically assumed. Against the entailment thesis, Myers-Schulz and Schwitzgebel (forthcoming) report that a non trivial percentage of people think that there can be propositional knowledge without belief. In this paper, ...

Circadian clocks--from genes to complex behaviour.

Circadian clocks control temporal structure in practically all organisms and on all levels of biology, from gene expression to complex behaviour and cognition. Over the last decades, research has begun to unravel the physiological and, more recently, molecular mechanisms that underlie this endogenous temporal programme. The generation of circadian rhythms can be explained, at the molecular leve...

Experiencing God

Some philosophers claim that it is not possible for God, if God exists, to figure in the phenomenological content of experience. W.T. Stace was one such philosopher committed to this claim, but he offered nothing in the way of an argument for it. William Forgie, however, has argued that on the assumption of two putatively plausible theses about the phenomenology of experience, phenomenologicall...
